PA SummerFest: ’80s Mega Mix
Totally Rad New Event at Mohegan Sun
Flashback to a time where big hair ruled, synthesizers rocked and tight pants rolled. The ’80s are back in the 570 with a vengeance this weekend for two days of hair teasing music as the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs SummerFest ’80s Mega Mix Weekend heats up the track. SummerFest will deliver both hair bands and ’80s favorites starting Friday, July 27 at 5 p.m. The party will continue Saturday, July 28 at noon. Tickets are $10 each day or $15 for a two day pass. You must be 21 years of age or older for this event. SummerFest will take place rain or shine.
“After the wildly successful PA Oktoberfest event we hosted last fall at Mohegan Sun — we knew we had a winning combination,” said Tim Holmes, Times-Shamrock regional director of marketing and events. “Between the fantastic location, the venue itself and the staff of Mohegan Sun and Times Shamrock’s power of promotion, we simply had to try it again. Almost immediately after that weekend last fall, we began planning the SummerFest event.”
When asked about the lure of bringing in eighties acts, Holmes acknowledged how the event quickly gained momentum.
“Past experience shows us that the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Hazleton markets absolutely loves ’80s related music and events,” Holmes said. “The “Party on the Patio” events each Thursday during the summer at Mohegan Sun are always a huge hit! Once we were able to sign the first few ’80s acts – the rest we’re quick to jump on board. It really is going to be great to have them all in one place at one time.”
The featured performers for Friday, July 27 are Trixter (One in a Million), Firehouse (Love of a Lifetime), and Warrant (Cherry Pie). Friday’s performances will be from 5 to 11 p.m.
Saturday’s festivities will begin at noon and will continue until 11 p.m. featuring acts John Parr (St. Elmo’s Fire — Naughty, Naughty), Tommy Tutone (Jenny / 867-5309), When in Rome UK (The Promise), Animotion (Obsession), and A Flock of Seagulls (I Ran).
Also performing throughout the weekend will be a host of local bands as well as Rock Steady: A Tribute to Bad Company, 11After – All Female Rock Band, Drive: Cars Tribute Band, Talk of the Town: Pretenders Tribute Band, and Elliot Lewis formerly of Hall & Oats Band.
Between sets, there will be a great line up of contests and activities in the tents located by the track. The tents (affectionately called Crockett and Tubbs) are set to feature music by DJ Cadillac, DJ Callen, EJ the DJ and DJ Colarossi. Numerous activities featured underneath the tents will include air guitar contests, ’80s trivia, mohawk and mullet contests, big hair contests, an ’80s look-a-like contest and much more.
