If you love animals
Here’s the scoop on a great way to help support the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter & the SPCA of Luzerne County: AnimaLIVE on Saturday, April 21. Two events will be held on Saturday. Kildare’s, located at 119 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, will host the first event from 2 to 5 p.m., and then the fun moves to the Camelot Inn, 17 Johnson Rd., Clarks Summit at 7 p.m. For a $10 donation, you can enjoy live entertainment and support a good cause.

If you love to boogie
It’s hard to believe that it’s been five years since Brian Langan and Conor McGuigan launched their first Panked! dance party at the Bog on Adams Ave., in downtown Scranton, but here we are, ready to wish Panked! a happy birthday. You can boogie with the barflies on Thursday, April 26 from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Dress to impress and bust a move, people, because whether you know it or not, you’ll be competing for some fabulous prizes out there and you’ll want to show the judges how you pank it down.

If you love the outdoors
If you love to celebrate the beauty of northeastern Pennsylvania, be sure to mark your calendars for the City of Wilkes-Barre’s annual Cherry Blossom Festival. The event will be held on April 28 and 29 in Kirby Park, and features “Pirouettes in the Park” on Saturday, and “Music in the Park” on Sunday. There will also be plenty of food, crafts, amusement rides, pony rides, games and more for all to enjoy. The festival will go on rain or shine. For more information, visit

If you love art
If you enjoy local arts shows, you’ll want to save the date for the opening reception of Exceptional Art – Exceptional Artists” on May 3. The exhibit on display in the Speech-Language and Hearing Center at Misericordia University in Dallas features the work of local artists from the Deutsch Institute’s Verve Vertu Art Studio. A free reception will be held Thursday, May 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the 2nd floor of John J. Passan Hall located on the lower campus. The exhibit is open and free to the public during regular business hours of the Speech-Language and Hearing Center, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reservations for the reception can be made by contacting Michelle Donato at 674-8255 or

And finally, if you love to laugh
If you love to laugh, you’ll be in good company on Sunday, May 6, as we celebrate World Laughter Day at Nay Aug Park in Scranton.
Presented by Jeannine Luby, owner of Laugh to Live!, the event will include:
• Mini laughter yoga sessions, led by Luby, every half hour between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m.
• Kids’ Joke telling Showcase (suitable for children ages 5 to 11). A parent or guardian must be present to register the child.
• Artist Judith Youshock of “Heart to Art” will be on hand with art supplies to lead participants in the painting of a community mural for the non-profit Humor Therapy Fund of the Scranton Area Foundation
• Baskets will be available to take chances on with donations benefiting the Humor Therapy Fund.
