Holiday Chic Peek

Calling all fashionistas

Plan your holiday wardrobe at Holiday Chic Peek

It might be possible to visit all the fashionable clothing shops of the area in one day, but it would be a hectic route leading all across The 570. Fortunately, Misericordia University is making it easy for fashionistas to shop the local boutiques all in one place with an upcoming event.
The Holiday Chic Peek will be a fashion showcase featuring Project Runway winner and famed designer Jay McCarroll. The event will bring together high-end boutiques in the area to give a sample of this season’s trends.
Misericordia student Morgan Harding, who organized the event, said it will help bring attention to local business and make shoppers realize the wide selection this region has to offer.  “I think having all those options in one location will get the boutiques that are participating some new customers, and it will give people a new view of what’s actually in our area as far as clothing goes,” Harding said. “We actually do have a really good selection,” she said. “You just have to look.”
Buka, Shooze, Boden and Outrageous will be among about 15 stores participating. Each store will display one holiday outfit during the runway show.
“They’re going to get up and talk about it, why that’s good for this holiday season, what trends it fits in with, what brand it is, how much it costs, all the details,” Harding said.
Topping off the runway show will be McCarroll, a native of the Lake Lehman area who was the original winner of Project Runway in 2005. “I think having him there is going to be fun for a lot of people because he is a local celebrity, but he’s not exactly ‘localized’ anymore,” Harding said.
After talking about some of the latest trends, he’ll be interacting with guests and showing his line, which is typically offered exclusively online.  “It’s not every day that you can actually see these items in person and try them on or buy them,” Harding said.
Alongside McCarroll will be booths from local businesses in the show. Attendees can purchase the same pieces they saw on the runway plus much more.
“It’s like having 15 different stores set up in one room,” Harding said.
There will also be a range of styles, from California casual to New York high-end. Harding said to look out for chunky fur vests and sequined party dresses — the perfect outfit for a New Year’s Eve party.
She made sure to also include a range of price options, though everything is upscale. She said some stores will have $600 party dresses, while others will be more affordable at $30. “Anyone can come to this and find something,” she said.
Shoppers can take a break by sampling snacks from the Brown Barn Café and checking out the basket raffle of high-end fashion and beauty products.
