Voting begins this week for
Electric City and Diamond City Best Of Readers’ Poll
As we open our online polls for the annual Electric City and Diamond City Best Of competition, we’d like to remind everyone to pick up their phones and vote.
An annual fall tradition at Electric City and Diamond City, we’re always pleased with the number of readers who cast online votes in support of the businesses and people that make The 570 special.
If you aren’t familiar with the Best Of poll, we tally up votes from readers in Lackawanna County for the Electric City awards, and our Diamond City readers cast votes for their favorite businesses and people in Luzerne County.
You may cast your votes now through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. We’ll announce the winners in two special editions: Electric City on Dec. 6, and Diamond City on Dec. 13. Winners will receive awards to display on their walls, and they’ll also earn bragging rights for a full year. In addition, they’ll be invited to a fabulous party to celebrate their victories with our readers (age 21 and over). Be sure to watch future editions for the announcement of the Best Of party date.
In the meantime, we want to share some important information on what you’ll find when you hop online to vote. This year’s categories include many you’ll be familiar with from the past, such as the ever-popular Nightlife, Love & Romance and Goods & Services. You’ll also discover some timely, thought-provoking and amusing new questions in the Survey Says portion of the poll. Our questions cover a wide spectrum of topics, from your thoughts on the best and worst trends of 2012 to how you’ll spend your last day on earth. (We just couldn’t resist throwing in an apocalyptic question. Can you blame us?). Feel free to use your creativity and show off your smashing sense of humor with that one.
Of course, we would be remiss without mentioning one of our favorite categories, the Eats & Drinks section. In addition to inquiring about your favorite pizzerias – including those who specialize in both round and square pizza pies – we made sure the survey reflects all the wonderful regional foods for which northeastern Pennsylvania is famous. We’re talking potato pancakes and pierogies. Yum! We’ve also added some new categories to the restaurant section, including Best Chinese, Best Japanese and Best Place to Eat Organic, just to name a few.
Remember, the key to making this poll successful is keeping your answers local, unless otherwise specified. When we ask for your favorite festival, please don’t get silly and vote for the Lobster Festival in the Port of Los Angeles. A vote like that won’t even be factored in to the results, so save your sassy sense of humor for a time when it can be properly appreciated.
And, not to sound like a curmudgeon, if you are concocting sneaky ways to beat the system and rig the results, just don’t. Our technical wizards have been working around the clock to foil any such plans. Technology is in place to ensure there is no electronic ballot stuffing, making our web team the Harry Potter to your Lord Voldemort. Ha!
Just vote. Be honest, have fun, and fire up those laptops and phones by Nov. 2. Enjoy!
