Welcome Back Warped!
Vans Warped Tour returns to Toyota Pavilion, July 18
Once again, the sounds of metal, indie rock, rap, ska, reggae and punk will permeate through the open air of Montage Mountain. National acts and local favorites alike will take the stage at Toyota Pavilion with the return of the Vans Warped Tour Wednesday, July 18. The festival gates open at 11 a.m.
The Vans Warped Tour is long running music and lifestyle festival that tours the nation every summer, showcasing new up-and-coming artists, as well as established acts. Kevin Lyman founded the tour in 1995 and can be credited as giving initial exposure to artists such as No Doubt, Eminem, Katy Perry, Blink 182, The Black Eyed Peas, Sublime and My Chemical Romance and many more.
With a very large line-up and hectic schedule, the tour relies on camaraderie and organization to make things run smoothly. “It’s really awesome how all these people can set up this village of Warped Tour every day and it’s cool because everyone works as a team,” said Levi Benton, singer from Miss May I. “There are 300 to 400 people on the tour and everyone gets along. It’s like a big family. You meet friends for a lifetime on this tour.”
With so many genres on the tour, bands are looking forward to reaching out to new fans.
“I always look forward to playing in front of so many fans that I would I never get to meet,” Benton said. “There are so many different kinds of genres and different kind of people that come to Warped and I look forward to all the new fans. My suggestion is when your favorite bands aren’t playing, go discover a new band.”
Warped is the longest-running traveling music and extreme sports festival in the world and has traveled throughout Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The tour annually reaches more than 600,000 fans in over 40 cities in North America each summer and appeals to music fans and teens with a blend of punk, alternative rock, pop, metal, hip hop, hardcore, electronic, reggae, ska, and extreme sports.
Not only does the festival feature a large list of musical performers all for a low admission fee (tickets under $40), it has a virtual village which includes skating competitions, a reverse daycare center where kids can check in on their parents in an air-conditioned lounge, the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands stage (featuring both local artist contest winners and emerging national talent) and numerous charity and environmental booths which travel on the entire tour.
Now entering its 18th year and making 41 appearances in 2012, the Vans Warped Tour will conclude its run August 5 in Portland, OR.
