’80s Mega Mix
I spent most of the ’80s with a pogo ball between my feet and a Star Wars figurine clutched in my hand. I would ride my bike in-between boyhood adventures (building forts, climbing trees and making mud volcanoes) only taking an afternoon break to watch Transformers, G.I. Joe or Thundercats on television. It was a time when we all attempted to moonwalk across the room at least once, quoted a Ronald Reagan phrase with sincerity or looked deep within our souls to ask ourselves the most important question of the decade: Where’s the Beef?
Well, if you know what I’m really saying you better “phone home” as fast as you can (or at least set your Swatch watch).
Electric city is pleased to exclusively announce the area’s next radical event. Time after time, we have delivered the skinny on events like Rooftop Parties, The Office Convention, Swingin’ on Vine, Downtown Dining Tours, the recent Electric City Craft Brew Fest and our wildly successful PA Oktoberfest event at Mohegan Sun.
The man in the Members Only jacket behind all of these events is our very own Tim Holmes. Holmes and a neon crew of fellow Times-Shamrock employees from Electric Avenue will be part of the time warp that will hit Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs this July when Summer Fest ’80s Mega Mix Weekend brings back the decade of acid washed jeans, jelly bracelets, Teddy Ruxpin and music, music, music!
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs’ first Summer Fest will be held July 27 and 28 giving local music lovers the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and two days of music at this festival featuring performers from the ’80s, food, drinks and much more.
Summer Fest will kick off Friday, July 27 at 5 p.m. and will include live performances from some of the decade’s finest hair bands including Trixter (“Give It to Me Good,” “One in a Million”), Firehouse (“Don’t Treat Me Bad,” “Love of a Lifetime”), and Warrant (“Cherry Pie,” “Heaven”).
Saturday’s festivities will begin at noon and will feature an eclectic mix of synthesizer pop, soundtrack stars and MTV pioneers throughout the day. Artists include John Parr (“St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion)”, “Naughty, Naughty”), Tommy Tutone (“867-5309/Jenny”), When in Rome UK (“The Promise”), Animotion (“Obsession”), and A Flock of Seagulls (“I Ran”).
There will also be performances throughout the festival by Rock Steady: A Tribute to Bad Company, 11After, Drive: Cars Tribute Band, Talk of the Town: Pretenders Tribute Band and Elliot Lewis formerly of Hall & Oates. The festival will also showcase some local music acts and DJs.
Tickets will be $10 per day, Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28. There will also be a weekend pass available for $15 for two-day admittance.

Own worst enemy
Speaking of the ’80s and my childhood, I finally had time to sit down and watch the documentary The People vs. George Lucas. I get a warm feeling knowing that I am not alone in wanting to feed him to the sarlacc.
Here’s what’s in my headphones this week: The Hooters Nervous Night (Columbia) 1985
