Guiding Light? …
Dickson City resident Julia Treat is a medium willing to heal and help people in search of answers and spiritual guidance. The daughter of a Baptist minister, Treat grew up in South Dakota and relocated to northeastern Pennsylvana eight years ago while looking for a big change in her life. After attending a local conference, the mountains and trees of the region reminded her of South Dakota and she decided to stay. She received her master of arts degree in speech language pathology from The University of Kansas and pursued a career helping children and adults with speech, language and feeding disorders. After battling illness (later diagnosed as Lyme disease) she continues to work as a speech therapist as well as the woman behind Guided By Angels, a healing space in Dunmore offering Reiki, healing sessions, intuitive mentoring and angel readings. A certified Angel Light Messenger, Treat uses her unique connection to the spirit world in order to help people connect and heal with loved ones passing over to the other side. She said she talks to angels and all she wants is to offer people help and hope. Meet medium Julia Treat …
How did you discover this gift?
Five years ago, a friend of mine who was like a mother to me was passing away. I don’t know why, but I started opening up. I could see the conversation between her and her husband who had already passed. I was raking my yard at home and all of a sudden I see her husband talking to her. I started crying because I could feel her fear and I saw him with his arms out. I didn’t know what was happening. Upon her passing I decided I needed to figure out what was going on. I know I am supposed to help people. I found a mentor, Jackie Eaton in Rhode Island, took the necessary classes, read books and got my own angel cards. The more you get into it, the more connected you become.
Talk about your training.
I started out with a trip to Sedona, Arizona, to a very sacred space called Angel Valley. We would do mediations. Getting connected is learning how to quiet your mind so you can receive messages. That was my biggest obstacle in the beginning.
Describe what you do.
I do “everything readings.” I’m not just a medium. I believe I get messages from people who have passed. Sometimes they will show me what they look like and I will describe that to the person getting the reading. I can see different ways they’ve passed. I might call the person by a specific nickname. Pets come through as well. I really think I help people heal. I help them to connect with people who have passed or I get messages. The bottom line is that I feel like I give people hope. The biggest thing I can offer to people is to let them know that they are not alone and that there is so much more in heaven.
What is making you come out as a medium at this point in your life?
I don’t remember if I could do this at a young age and if I did, I’m sure my parents would have nixed that. They didn’t believe in it. That has been one of my struggles because I know what I do won’t get my parents approval, but I’m okay with that now. I have been getting messages to reach the masses, that is what I keep hearing. There are so many people that are broken, hurt and lost. When they leave me, they say that they have a new hope of what is to come. I know I’m here to help people, I’m just putting myself out there, not just for me, but for other people that do what I do. There are places to get answers, help and hope. I do believe I’m here to empower people to get their own messages. I don’t want reading junkies. I think it’s very important for people to learn.
Can I have an example of your work?
I see more in my mind’s eye which is another obstacle to get over; making sense of what you are seeing. One instance that sticks out in my head is with a little boy I worked with. His mother thought he was seeing spirits and wanted me to come to the house. When I walked into his bedroom, I saw a vision of a man standing in the closet chewing on a piece of straw and spitting. The mother later told me that her son was claiming a man spits on him at night. That was one of my first encounters.
Do you ever get scared?
Yes. I can feel the spirit or entity’s energy. If they passed angry, bitter or sad and they haven’t crossed over, that is how I feel. When they are really angry, that is a scary feeling for me because that’s so far away from my personality. I do go into houses and I do get nervous. I call in my guardian angles and archangel, Michael, for protection and I do feel better and empowered.
What happens to you when you call on the angels and become a medium?
I don’t know. I don’t feel any different. Sometimes I may hear things. I will see things in my mind’s eye. I might smell something as well. I don’t feel like I’m any different. I’m just telling people things that make sense to them.
What do you say to your skeptics?
Fortunately, I have not found any yet. I do feel that I am completely protected by the angels. I have always said “bring me the people that I can help.” I will help whoever needs my help. If they need me to help them then they will come to me. If they need something else, I encourage them to go find it. So far, I’ve been taken care of. I do respect everyone being in their own place and if they don’t believe in what I do, that is fine. I don’t judge them. I am where I need to be.
