Think green

Not that you need a reminder, but just in case you’ve lost track of time, Parade Day is just 9 days away in the Electric City and 10 days away in the Diamond City! Are you ready?
Here’s a brief scoop of what next weekend will look like (we’ll have more detailed information in the March 8 editions):
Scranton: Scranton’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, celebrated as the second largest in the country, will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 11:45 a.m. The day begins with mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral at 10 a.m., and in keeping with tradition, the annual Brian J. Kelly Memorial Race will be held at 11 a.m. For more information on these festivities, visit www.stpatparade.com.
Wilkes-Barre: The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Wilkes-Barre will step off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11. The Renal race, sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 36 will be held at 8:30 a.m. The one-mile fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Martz Amphitheater in Kirby Park and ends on Public Square. Turtle Power

While we’re on the subject of all things green, we invite you to take a moment and look a little more closely at this week’s cover. Do you recognize this incredible setting, and can you guess who is playing one of our favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Leonardo? We won’t give too much away, but we can tell you that our creative team of Tom Bonomo, Eric Toffey and Tom Graham took Leonardo to a famous location in Lackawanna County, and treated him to a slice (or two) of his favorite food, pizza. Leonardo is an ec and dc personality. (Remember, this includes our staff writers, columnists and sales representatives).
If you’re wondering why we have a TMNT cover this week, trust us, we aren’t just strolling down memory lane. There is a significant reason for our choice of cover art this week, and it will all make sense when you read our TMNT story on page 14.

If you want to be in pictures

If you’re interested in breaking into the world of motion pictures, plan to attend an open background cast and crew member call on Saturday, March 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel in Scranton.
A national film production company is hosting the cast and crew call for an independent feature film to be produced in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area in March and April.

Jim Gaffigan comes to WB

There’s a special place in my heart for the Pale Force cartoons featured on Conan (I think the reason is obvious), so it gives me great pleasure to share some good news with fellow Jim Gaffigan fans: he’s coming to Wilkes-Barre this summer. Gaffigan will present an evening of comedy at the F.M. Kirby Center on July 26. In addition to his writing and voice work on the animated Pale Force series, Gaffigan is well known for his appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and Conan.
Tickets are $39.75 and $49.75 and they go on sale on Friday, March 2, at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available online at kirbycenter.org, by phone at 826-1100 or 1-800-745-3000 or the F.M. Kirby Center Box Office.
