The Scoop

This is the time of year when we all start to long for some sunshine, greenery and warmer temperatures, but there’s no need to sit around in your Snuggie and strive for an “A+” in Couch Potato 101. There are still plenty of winter events and activities that will keep you busy until spring arrives:

The Electric City Trolley Museum will be a hot spot on Friday, Jan. 13, as the community comes together for Winter in the City. All will enjoy a cocktail party featuring hors d’oeuvres and entertainment by 2 for the Road. The party will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m., and tickets are $15. Proceeds will benefit Scranton Tomorrow. For more information, call 963-1575 or visit Scranton Tomorrow Main Street Scranton on Facebook.

How about some yoga to warm up on a brisk, Saturday morning in the 570? If you’d like to work off the goodies you ate the night before at Winter in the City, stop by Mission Yoga at 544 Spruce St., downtown Scranton. This is a new studio and as part of its grand opening celebration, Mission Yoga is hosting a special event on Jan. 14. They’ll host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by a meet and greet with the instructors, a tour of the studio and a free class from noon to 1:30 p.m. (Please note: this class is offered free, but if you’d like to make a donation to the Indraloka Animal Sanctuary while you’re there, donations will be accepted). Light fare and refreshments will also be offered. This sounds like a perfect way to start your weekend.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll appreciate a multi-media tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This event will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. in Lemmond Theater in Walsh Hall at Misericordia University in Dallas. Key Arts Productions will present “King’s Dream Performance,” a 45-minute live performance and multimedia presentation paying tribute to the American civil rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize recipient. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.misericordia.edu or call 674-6400.

If you’re a fan of Chef Gordon Ramsay, you might want to hop in the car and take a short drive to Milford where the celebrity chef will tape Hotel Hell, his new Fox reality show, at the River Rock Inn, from Jan. 16 to 20.

Here’s the scoop on how you can dine or stay at the River Rock Inn during this special week: email MilfordHotel@gmail.com with your contact information, date and time for your reservation and the number of people in your party. There is a maximum of six people per table. Seating is limited, so be sure to submit your request as soon as possible. For more information, visit milfordpa.us.

That’s the scoop! Thanks for reading and I’ll meet you here again next week.
