Go outside right now, throw a rock and it will most likely hit a bar or a funeral home. Right? That’s an often heard, but not scientifically proven, hypothesis in the 570. I say the more choices we have to dwell at night, whether it’s bars, dance clubs or Dungeons & Dragons in your mudroom, the more opportunities we have to meet some fantastic people. Here are the Nightlife winners of our Best of Readers’ Poll.
The Bog was a repeat winner for Best Open Mic, Best Pub Trivia and Best Jukebox. Big man and the law of the Bog R.J. Calvey won yet another Best Bouncer trophy giving The Bog has four awards to hang on their brick walls. Other superstars of the night include winner of Best Bartender Jimmy McGrath from McGrath’s Pub and Eatery in Dalton and Best DJ winner, the infamous DJ Cadillac.
The Backyard Ale House won the award for Best Young Professionals Bar and the ever-coveted Best Overall Bar. With plans for expansion in 2012, The Backyard Ale House is showing that they want to offer much more to their loyal beer lovers and barstool hoppers.
If you feel like putting on your dancing shoes and working up a sweat, then you should know that Rocky’s Lounge was voted Best Dance Club and the Best Club Vibe winner is Hardware Bar on Linden Street. Hardware Bar also nabbed the award for Best Live Music Club and features local acts like UUU, Nowhere Slow and celebrity appearances by the likes of Ron Jeremy and Vanilla Ice.
If you’re looking to hit the town before the night rush, winner of the Best Happy Hour award, Trax, is the right place to kick off your night of sipping them down. If you are looking to catch any type of sporting event and want plenty of televisions to choose from, The Penalty Box in Moosic is the Best Sports Bar and your destination. Stop in and look at all the beautiful people drinking hard-to-find beers at Jack’s Draft House, winner of Best Looking Bar Crowd. If you would like to remain low key for the night and drink your beer in peace, meet great local characters and enjoy being in a genuine bar, then you need to put Best Local Pub Winner The Dugout on your drinking map.
If it’s a drink that you are in search of, look no further than these winners – Mert’s (Best Cocktails), The Banshee (Best Bar in a Restaurant), The Green Frog (Best Bar Nobody’s Heard Of), Goodfellas (Best College Bar), La Tonalteca (Best Margaritas), Billy B’s (Best Martinis) and The V Spot (Best Drink Specials). The V Spot on Providence Road also won Best New Bar/Club due to their hilarious bar staff, good eats, cheap booze and a very strong live entertainment schedule.
