Comedic cabaret is very POSH

On Friday, Nov. 18, POSH @ The Scranton Club, 404 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, is hosting a one-of-a-kind charity event featuring the national drag sensation, Joanna, the “Gal with a Gazillion Voices.”
Always a guaranteed good time, Joanna describes her act as a “comedy cabaret show,” where she will perform as over 30 different celebrities. “This is real life singing,” Jo told electric city and diamond city as we spoke over the phone on a brisk Manhattan morning. “There is no lip syncing here.”
We asked the performer where the inspiration for Joanna was born. “I’ve been in theater in New York City since I was 19,” she said, “and kept getting cast as women. So I decided to embrace it!”
Joanna sings in more than 30 wild and wacky voices, channeling everyone from Lady Gaga, to Elvis, Tina Turner, Eartha Kitt, Cyndi Lauper, Johnny Cash, Adele and many more. Jo is confident that the show will appeal to everyone. “I tailor each show to the audience,” she said.
As Joanna, the singer has garnered the attention of The New York Times, which called her show “one of the best.” And the Florida Sun said Joanna “Goes beyond impressions, parody, and burlesque.” Joanna has performed all over the world, and will be making her Scranton debut this Friday night at POSH.
According to Pat Rosetti, event coordinator at POSH, the fundraiser came about with the help of Joshua Mast and Paul Blackledge, co-owners of the venue. After catching Joanna’s act a few years ago, they became big fans and personal friends with the performer. “They’ve wanted to bring Joanna here for some time, it was just a matter of finding the right charity,” said Rosetti. “Josh and Paul are always looking for ways to give back to the community.”
The perfect charity turned out to be the Voluntary Action Center’s Christmas Bureau, established in 1950 to provide financial assistance to low-income families in Lackawanna County during the holiday season.
The price of admission for this truly unique experience is $25 per person, which includes a cocktail hour from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the 9 p.m. show. To reserve a seat, call 397-0709. But you’d better hurry. “We’ve been getting a lot of calls,” Rosetti said. “People are very excited about Joanna coming to Scranton.”
