Celebrity chef Robert Irvine is heading to Anna Maria’s in Dunmore Saturday night to shoot an episode of his fabulous Food Network series ‘Restaurant Impossible.’ Sadly, getting a reservation to be part of the reality TV event is what’s really impossible. Believe me, I tried. Sixteen times. Over two days.
Still, gatecrashing is an Olympic sport for moi so you can bet your gold medals Rude Rube will be making my way through the Drinker Street dining establishment’s doors faster than you can crow “delish.” And if the poor man’s Gordon Ramsay decides to not let me sample his wares, I’ll just have to infiltrate the Sileo family ranks by donning a couture apron and designer hair net in order to pass as a saucy server.
And no, I won’t be asking Chef Irvine to kiss my proverbial grits.
The episode, by the way, won’t air until at least January so when you finally tune in on a cold winter’s night, look for yours truly slinging spicy meatballs at the spicy British chef.
Meanwhile, every Monday night you can find me shucking shellfish at Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House up Moosic way thanks to their Buck-A-Shuck specials. Yes, that’s $1 an oyster and $1 Pabst Pounders from 4 to 10 p.m. every Monday and let me tell you, the joint gets jumpin’ with fervent mollusk-loving devotees like myself. Just this past week, I spotted former Scranton Times-Tribune reporter Thomas Staff and his divine wife, Trish, holding court at a corner table as well as celebrity server to the stars, Lisa Pomeroy, flitting about the packed establishment, keeping her customers happy as clams.
The fish food, in the meantime, was so fresh that I found myself looking for seagull’s overhead when I exited the Montage Mountain dining establishment after my delightful – and uber cheap – repast. And while I didn’t see any at Magrogan’s, I did catch a Flock of Seagulls Saturday night at the beautiful Mount Airy Casino Resort. While the ’80s new wave legends brought down the house with their monster hit “I Ran,” I ran into the chic and petite stylist to the stars, Rosey Duffy DeAntona, out for a night on the town with her hunky hubbie, Mike, her stunning cousin, Megan, and her out-of-this-world in-laws, Alyce and Joe, who were busy chatting up the ferociously fashionable Matthew Magda in a swanky private booth.
Why, I even managed to catch a glimpse of Mount Airy’s elegant owner Lisa DeNaples chatting up the gathered beau monde before the lights dimmed and I lost sight of the little glamour puss and her posh pals.
Meanwhile, those dreaming of bright lights should head to Mount Airy this Saturday for a casting call extraordinaire to be held in Gypsies Nightclub. In addition to Sopranos star Vincent Pastore, actor William DeMeo and director Paul Borghese will be there auditioning wannabe actors for the big screen drama that will begin shooting this spring.
And our very own Kathleen Kane appeared up close and personal on the small screen this past Monday night as an expert guest on Hardball with Chris Matthews. The Attorney General candidate and former Lackawanna County prosecutor made us proud as she commented on the shocking Penn State scandal.
She did so well, let’s just say I’m already shopping for a festive frock to wear to her inaugural ball.
