An air of the region’s industrial past still hangs around the Hawley Silk Mill, looming with the authority of a castle at the bottom of the hill as you drive down Route 590 into town. Inside the massive bluestone stone walls erected in 1880, fresh LEED-certified renovations and high-speed fiber optic data lines electrify the offices of more than eight professional tenants. A new exhibit of contemporary art titled Art on the Edge will thoroughly shock the historical landmark into the present when it opens on July 8.
Curated by neon artist Rocky Pinciotti, director of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance Gallery in Narrowsburg, N.Y., in a 5,000 square foot exhibition space, Art on the Edge claims to feature "the most dynamic contemporary art pieces from prominent regional artists … in a sophisticated, yet accessible environment art collectors, patrons of the arts and families can enjoy."
An Advocates of the Arts Pre-Opening Gala for Art on the Edge will be held on Saturday, June 25, from 6 to 10 p.m. Described as an "exclusive red carpet event" the gala will feature catering by The Settlers Inn, live piano music, a silent auction and the unveiling of the Art on the Edge collectible print. Tickets are $200 each with proceeds benefitting the Wayne County Arts Alliance.
After opening July 3, Art on the Edge will remain on display through Sept. 3, and will be viewable daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Art on the Edge also plans to host a weekly series of special events on Friday and Saturday nights, such as a "Creative Cocktail Hour" and French Woods Performing Arts specials.
