dc Best Of 2012: Nightlife

Sometimes you just need to go out and blow off some steam. You can always catch some live music or dance away your day into the darkness of the Diamond City. Just look at the Best Of 2013 Winners in the Nightlife Category. They’ll point you in the right direction, whether you’re looking for the perfect cosmopolitan or the coziest corner to get away from the world for a much deserved break.
Sometimes there’s nothing like being in the company of strangers. Pull up a stool at Fat Daddy’s (Best Bar Nobody’s Heard Of) if you can find it or enjoy a brew or two with some of your closest friends at Huns’ West Side Café (Best Corner Bar). Visit Dave Scherbenco, of Senuna’s Bar & Grill (Best Bartender) winner of top bartender honors and ask him to serve you up something special. Known for their packed weekend nights, Senuna’s Bar & Grill (Best College Bar) took home top honors for college co-eds to spend their time after hitting the books.
A hot spot for national touring acts, the River Street Jazz Café (Best Place to Hear Live Music) is also one of the only places in northeastern Pennsylvania where you can catch acts like Cabinet, MiZ, Alexis P. Suter and Clarence Spady on stage. Those looking to cut a rug on the dance floor voted Twist (Best Dance Club, Best Gay/Lesbian Friendly Bar) as the best place to shake their groove thing, while The Woodlands Inn took home honors for having the Best Club Vibe.
Beer Boys (Best Happy Hour) is the place to kick off your evening the right way and Metro Bar and Grill (Best Happy Hour Food) is home to good eats while tipping a couple back. Mulligan’s Sports & Spirits (Best Drink Specials) won the best place to get the most bang for your buck.
Are you in search of the perfect mix of booze? Our readers chose Madison’s Vodka Bar and Steakhouse (Best Cocktails, Best Martinis) as their destination for amazing mixers and martinis. If you like a little salt and tequila in your night, head south of the border to La Tolteca (Best Margaritas) and you’ll find yourself sipping on the area’s best served on the rocks, straight up or blended to perfection. Chances are Lucky’s Sporthouse (Best Pub Trivia, Best Sports Bar) has the big game on one of its screens and may be full of know-it alls flexing their mental muscles during pub trivia. Uptown II (Best Young Professionals’ Bar) is the top place to socialize with the young businessmen and woman of The 570 after a long day at the office or on the road, while Breakers at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs (Best Looking Bar Crowd) won best place to sit back and check out all the eye candy.
Who knows how your night might end. Maybe you’ll finally meet that special someone you’ve been looking for all of these years. Or maybe you’ll end up singing Meat Loaf’s epic tale of young lust, “Paradise By the Dashboard Light”, at Ole Tyme Charley’s Restaurant & Pub (Best Karaoke) in front of a crowd of the Diamond City’s finest night owls.
