Football season is just around the corner, and you know what that means - arguing over which game to watch and who's getting up to get the snacks? Well, to avoid all that, we headed to Goodfella's new Sports Restaurant to take full advantage of its expanded menu and 30-plus TVs.
Walking in, we immediately noticed that this new location at 1210 Mulberry St. (next to the old storefront) is much larger, with table seating for up to 70 people as well as a full bar featuring different drink specials every night.
Shortly thereafter, we were welcomed to choose our own seats and to change our booth's individual TV to whichever station we desired. The laidback atmosphere really made watching the preseason NFL games enjoyable as we didn't feel rushed or hurried in any way.
Now it was time for the food, and what's football without wings? Thankfully, every Monday and Wednesday is Wing Night at Goodfella's. At just 35 cents a piece, we couldn't help but try two of the 11 flavors the restaurant has to offer. With a little help from our waitress, we decided to go with honey barbeque and Thai chile sauces. None of us were brave enough to attempt the Hot 'n' Tangy Death Sauce, which required the signing of a waiver before ordering.
Polishing off the wings, we moved on to our main dish. Although the new menu offers an extensive list of subs, gyros, salads and burgers as well as a full kids menu (all under $8), we couldn't help but go with an old classic - pepperoni pizza ($10).
The pizza was made in signature Goodfella's style - a crispy, thin crust layered with sauce, cheese, pepperoni, then more cheese. It was the perfect handheld food to go along with the game. It was then that we were informed by our waitress that Goodfella's not only offers all the college football, NFL and NBA network channels, but also runs UFC and hockey nights during the season.
Then, before we knew it, it was the fourth quarter and we had a choice to make. Did we want to go with the Cinnamon Bites, or the Cookie Craver? It turns out at $4.99 the Cookie Craver was the MVP of the night, winning over everyone at the table. This sweet chocolate chip cookie coated in whipped cream was big enough for everyone to share and balanced out perfectly the spicy kick from our earlier wing adventure.
Now that we finished our meal, it was time to do some game playing of our own. Goodfella's proved to be the right spot as claw games and video touch screens can be found throughout the restaurant and bar. With the cash we saved on Wing Night we made our way down the staircase under the main serving room, where patrons can enjoy an entire area dedicated to billiards, electronic darts, game tables and a second full bar that opens on the weekends.
Goodfella's truly offers a great spot to sit and watch the game. With something for everyone and prices that even the Don himself would consider a steal, let's hope these Goodfella's don't get stashed some place far away by the Witness Protection Program.
