Geyser Peak's 2006 Block Collection Sauvignon Blanc comes from the "River Road Ranch" in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma. This wine has it work cut out for it since Geyser's entry-level sauvignon blanc, which sells between $8 and $12, is so good and well-regarded.
Geyser Peak has a "Block Collection" is so named because of the exclusive vineyard blocks the grapes come from. So it costs a bit more.
The Block Selection sauvignon blanc has kiwi and lime flavors. It's smoother and less crisp than its peers, perhaps because some of the wine is aged in oak barrels (part of the attempt to add "value" to the wine.
While it's a slightly edgier than its lesser sibling, with more New Zealand-style spunk, I wouldn't fork over $10 more. The MSRP on this wine is $21. However, it is available as a "Chairman's Selection" special for $13, a deal worth looking into if you can find it at that price. Three and a half glasses.
