Wine of the Week: Hogue Cellars Genesis 2006 Riesling, Washington State

David Falchek, Times Shamrock Writer

Hogue Cellar's mid-tier wine, Genesis 2006 Riesling came to life after 10 minutes in the glass, turning from blah apple-lemony character to tropical white grapefruit and kiwi flavors.

Off-dry, light and creamy, it works as a sipper, as well. Pennsylvania still has the 2005 version in state stores, but it shouldn't be that different. Three and a half glasses. $16

Index:
1 glass - Poor, barely drinkable.

2 glasses - Below Average. Undistinguished with minor flaws.

3 glasses - Good. Solid and well made.

4 glasses - Above Average. Special qualities or characteristics.

5 glasses - Exceptional. Superior character and style.
