Trained as a musician before he embraced theater, Philadelphia-based playwright Michael Hollinger thinks of his scripts as compositions. “Characters are instruments, scenes are movements; tempo, rhythm, and dynamics are critical; and melody and counterpoint are always set in relief by rests--beats, pauses, the spaces in between,” his biography at New Dramatists reads. Described as a dark comedy about the dark ages, Michael Hollinger’s Incorruptible finds a monastery of well-meaning monks who resort to desperate means of funding in order to continue their charitable work. The laugh-a-minute comedy opened last week under the direction of Martin Shell at the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble’s Alvina Krause Theatre and will run through May 15. One of Hollinger’s biggest fans, BTE has previously staged his works Opus, Red Herring and An Empty Plate At The Café Du Grande Beouf.
