Whistles Pub & Eatery walks away with the electric city Readers Poll award for Best Karaoke just about every year. But as anyone who’s been to the Franklin Avenue sports bar on a Thursday night can tell you, the crazy crowd and sardine can singles fest isn’t for everyone. Especially if you’re hoping to have your song heard beyond the first few rows of anxious exhibitionists waiting in line. West Scranton’s Kilcoyne’s draws in a smaller but most sincere crowd of shockingly good singers on Wednesdays when the petite DJ Deborah a.k.a. Debbie – a sweet singer in her own right -- sets up shop for the night. The cozy atmosphere is conducive to just about any genre and the regulars who might see a dozen turns at the mic are notably supportive of karaoke virgins and could-be professionals alike.
