Opening with an inaugural exhibition titled
Jewel Tones on May 2, The Shawnee Gallery is the latest addition to the 570's thriving fine arts scene.
Featuring watercolor and woodcut works by Penny Ross and jewelry by Abigail Porter, the spring-themed exhibit will remain on display through June 13.
This weekend the gallery will continue to celebrate with a printmaking workshop hosted by Ross on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and a book reading by former Monroe County Commissioner Nancy Shukaitis on Sunday at 4 p.m. Both events will be followed by a tea reception. Ross's demonstration will focus on the phases of creating a multi-colored Japanese-style woodcut print. Reservations are requested. Shukaitis's book
Lasting Legacies of the Lower Minisink has been described as a documentary with essays about life on the Delaware River. Books will be available for sale at the gallery or guests are welcome to bring their own for personalization.
Located on Worthington Avenue in Shawnee-On-Delaware, The Shawnee Gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. A gala grand opening event is reported to be in the works for June 28. Call 420-9404 for more information or visit
